The Mike Wietlispach Memorial Scholarship

The idea of this scholarship started within the science department at HEHS and as word got out, the school realized there are many others who would like to keep his name and spirit alive. This yearly scholarship has been established in his name and will be supported by the staff at HEHS as well as friends and family of Mike.  If you would like to donate, please feel free to give whatever amount you'd like through the "Donate" link below.

The man behind the scholarship:

Mike “Spa” Wietlispach was a teacher a Hoffman Estates High School for 30 years until his retirement in 2012.  During those 30 years, “Spa” was a pillar of the high school.  He was a science teacher, student council advisor, bus driver, football coach, intramural sponsor, ran the concession stands, union insurance representative, and the list goes on and on.  In all that he was involved in, he did it with enormous pride, enthusiasm, and an obvious love for others.

There are few teachers who have ever walked the halls of HEHS who exemplify the spirit for a school and others as Mike Wietlispach did daily for 30 years.

The scholarship:

This scholarship is given to at least one senior HEHS student who best exemplifies the spirit, involvement, and heart that Mike displayed throughout his career.  The original amount of each scholarship was to be $300 with the awards given at the Honors Convocation at the end of the school year.

Due to the outpouring of support in the 2023 inaugural year, the scholarship was increase to $500 for five deserving students.

The students that apply are asked the following questions and the teachers determine how many and which students are honored with the scholarship.

Include the names of at least 3 teachers/coaches who can best support the answers you have given in your application.
